New Guide: Centring Marginalised Voices at Work
|
Today, DCA is pleased to release a new evidence-based resource for our members: ‘Centring Marginalised Voices at Work’. The guide clarifies what it is to centre voice, why this is important, and provides a step-by-step approach for how organisations can do this.
To create the guide, DCA drew on learnings from our groundbreaking 2023 research report, Culturally and Racially Marginalised Women in Leadership. The new resource can help organisations in their efforts to centre the voices of any marginalised group of people in the D&I change initiatives that focus on them.
DCA will also share insights from this new resource in a global setting, as part of our contribution to the UN’s 68th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW68), taking place from 11-22 March 2024 in New York. Read more about DCA taking part in CSW68.

Blog: Why we use the term 'marginalised'
|
Sheetal Deo, Senior Project Manager of the RISE Project at DCA, shares insights on centring voice and why we use the term ‘marginalised’ in this thought-provoking blog.
“In our guidelines we talk about people with lived experiences of marginalisation. But ‘marginalisation’ can be a tricky concept for some people, especially when it is thought of as referring to someone’s identity – it can be seen as quite negative, or even ‘deficit’ language. This is not the case. While this is a larger discussion, it’s important to, albeit briefly, explain why we use this term deliberately and intentionally. Let’s begin by addressing what marginalisation is not and debunk a few misconceptions.”

Last chance to participate in trailblazing change project
|
Organisations can soon apply for the final phase of the RISE Project, with applications opening on 26 March 2024. The project is an initiative aimed at improving pathways to leadership for Culturally and Racially Marginalised (CARM) women.
Participating organisations will work with the RISE team to implement lasting change interventions to address systemic barriers through an organisational self-assessment tool, subsidised knowledge programs that foster racial and gender literacy, a comprehensive 12-month Action Plan spanning 13 focal areas, as well as mentorship, sponsorship and networking events.
To learn more, attend our upcoming event where we’ll share an update on progress, read about participating organisations, or contact the RISE team to book an information session.

DCA Knowledge Program

|
|
With the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD) coming up on 21 March 2024, it’s timely to highlight DCA’s Knowledge Program Racism at Work. This program helps equip individuals and organisations with the skills, knowledge and resources to talk about racism at work, identify it, and end it. Built on our Racism at Work research, the 3-module program aims to build your organisation’s racial literacy and explores how to advance anti-racism in your workplaces.

New gender equality strategy released
Last week, ahead of International Women’s Day, the Australian Government released its new 10-year strategy for gender equality, ‘Working for Women’. The strategy outlines the Government’s vision for gender equality, highlights current and recently implemented action to achieve the vision, and signposts areas for future Government actions.

|
|
“This strategy isn't only about women; it's about creating a fairer society for everyone, creating a more inclusive and equitable Australia overall", said DCA CEO, Lisa Annese.
Thank you to our members who shared their views in 2023, which informed DCA's submission to the Strategy consultation.
