The ‘class ceiling’ - the hidden barrier in Australian workplaces
In a country that prides itself on ‘the fair go’, why do so many workers still feel held back by their class background?
In a report set to be published later this year, we’ll be building on our social class research. This new resource will give an updated state of play for class inclusion in workplaces across Australia and provide practical ways for employers to reduce class-based exclusion. |
Early insights from the report have revealed a persistent ‘class ceiling’ limiting career opportunities for workers who are class marginalised. However, the data also showed that workplace inclusion does make a difference.
Later this week, DCA will bring social class to the forefront during a panel discussion at our flagship event. |

Our new resource pages on Class are now available |
These resources provide practical insights into social class, why it matters as a workplace diversity dimension, and how organisations can build class literacy and address classism at work. |

New blog series showcases DCA founding members |

We are proud to call some of Australia’s largest and most recognised employers DCA Founding Members. These members have been with us since the beginning and, at this pivotal moment for advancing workplace D&I action in Australia, remain steadfast in creating diverse and inclusive workplaces for all.
In this first in a series of commemorative blogs marking our 40th anniversary, we discuss with some of our founding member CEOs and regional leaders what drives their Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) agenda, why D&I remains a business imperative, and what they would say to other leaders considering joining DCA. |

Organisations who meet or exceed the benchmark will be announced at the start of Inclusion at Work Week 2025 (Monday 17 to Friday 21 November), recognised on the DCA website and through our social media channels, and can demonstrate their commitment to D&I by displaying the “Proud to be an Inclusive Employer” logo in their communications. A reminder that the Inclusive Employer Index is open to all organisations. DCA membership is not a requirement.
