DCA launches a bold new look for the future |
|
|
As you open this edition of Inclusion Matters, you’ll notice Diversity Council Australia (DCA) has a fresh new look! Today marks an exciting milestone, as DCA proudly unveils our refreshed brand identity.
Now visible across our communications channels, resources and materials, our refreshed brand reflects DCA’s growing impact and influence today as a leading voice advancing workplace diversity and inclusion (D&I).
As DCA celebrates its 40th year in helping shape more equitable and inclusive workplaces, our new look helps strengthen our mission and charitable purpose: to create a just and equitable Australian society where people in all their diversity can thrive. |

“Our new brand celebrates how far we’ve come as an organisation over the last 40 years in driving meaningful change for a stronger society,” said DCA CEO Catherine Hunter (she/her).
“It’s an opportune time to reflect on all the progress that’s been made in working towards equity for all, and how much further we can go together.” |

To shape a brand that truly reflects who we are, we first listened. Through focus groups, interviews and surveys, we engaged with representatives from our member organisations, partners, peers, and our team – including people with lived experience of marginalisation. We set out to better understand how our stakeholders view DCA — who we are and what we do. This helped shape our new brand platform. These insights then guided the development of our new look. |

DCA launches new guide on intersectionality in the workplace
|
|
|
Our latest guide, Applying Intersectionality at Work, is now available to download for members. This guide supports organisations to understand what intersectionality means in a workplace context, move beyond one-size-fits-all D&I approaches, and take practical steps to embed intersectionality into their work.
Intersectionality refers to how different aspects of a person’s identity expose them to overlapping forms of discrimination that greatly increases their marginalisation. Too often, D&I work focuses on separate areas of identity — such as gender, race, or disability.
Applying intersectionality in D&I work helps ensure workplace initiatives address the complex experiences of people who face overlapping forms of discrimination. DCA’s new guide helps organisations recognise and respond to these overlapping systems of inequity, so no one is left behind. |

Last day for national survey on neurodiversity data at work! |
|
|
Amaze and DCA are inviting people who identify as neurodivergent and/or have neurodivergent differences - and people working in diversity and inclusion - to provide input into the development of inclusive survey questions designed to capture neurodiversity data in the workplace.
The survey closes today, Monday 23 June. Results from the survey will inform the upcoming Neurodiversity Data at Work guide, to be launched in September 2025. Employers are also encouraged to share this survey with team members and networks to help drive meaningful change. |

Celebrating Jane O’Leary’s contribution to DCA
|
|
|
After more than two decades of remarkable service, DCA’s Research Director, Dr Jane O’Leary, will be leaving us in early July to explore new opportunities. Jane has made a significant contribution to DCA, and to the broader diversity and inclusion landscape in Australia. She has played a pivotal role in positioning DCA as the national leader in D&I research and has helped elevate our work to a global stage. Her ability to distil complex ideas into meaningful insights and practical tools for our members has been the hallmark of her time with DCA.
Jane leaves an indelible mark on our organisation and community. We know many of you will join us in thanking Jane and in wishing her every success for the exciting adventures ahead. |

Celebrate NAIDOC Week 6-13 July 2025

NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” honours past achievements and looks to a future shaped by the strength of young leaders, the vision of First Nations communities, and the enduring legacy of their ancestors.

This coming NAIDOC Week, UTS Business School/Centre for Indigenous People and Work, will host their inaugural NAIDOC lecture. Reconciliation Australia CEO, Karen Mundine, will address the impact of Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs) in Australia’s workplaces. As we approach almost 20 years of RAPs, register to join the discussion on 8 July 2025 at 3pm in Sydney.

DCA’s Catherine Hunter to join panel session exploring how to safeguard workplace inclusion practices |

|
The HR Symposium will take place 7-8th August 2025 in the Hunter Valley. The event will bring together the most influential HR leaders from leading organisations in Australia and New Zealand for two days of learning and conversation. DCA’s CEO, Catherine Hunter (she/her), will join the panel discussion, The Path May Change but the Goal Will Not – How to Future Proof the Inclusion Agenda. The discussion will focus on building D&I strategies that can not only respond to change but also lead through it.
