Five inclusion priorities for government action
DCA congratulates Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Labor Party on their re-election and look forward to continuing to work with the federal government to build a more inclusive and equitable Australia.
As Australia grapples with economic uncertainty and shifting workforce needs, building more inclusive workplaces isn’t just the right thing to do – it’s smart policy. Evidence-based advocacy efforts built on research and lived experience, prove that when people feel respected, valued and included at work, everyone benefits.
We’ve identified five key priorities where government action can drive real change.

DCA’s latest resource hub: explore the connection of D&I to ESG
DCA’s latest online hub exploring Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) is now live. It outlines what it is, how D&I and ESG are linked, plus the state of play of ESG related reporting in Australia. It also suggests actions for ESG strategy, reporting, and operations.
D&I is connected to all three ESG criteria – social, governance, and environmental.
In today’s evolving ESG landscape, investors, regulators are looking beyond surface-level data to more meaningful social impact. They want to see organisations are fostering genuine inclusion — not only as a social good, but as a driver of long-term sustainability, governance excellence, and trust.
Join us this Thursday 15 May for our event, ‘From metrics to meaning: The role of inclusion in ESG’, in person in Sydney or online to hear how leading DCA Members, are making D&I a core pillar of their ESG strategies

Thank you for shaping the future of DCA membership
We’re grateful to all our members who shared their insights in the 2025 Member Survey. Your feedback plays a vital role in strengthening the value of DCA membership for the entire D&I community.
Members highlighted our evidence-based research, inspiring events program, and rich website content as top benefits. With 89% of respondents satisfied or very satisfied with DCA membership, 85% reporting growth in their D&I capabilities, and 82% of members valuing the timeliness and relevance of our communications, it’s clear that DCA continues to make a positive impact.
In 2024, members identified their top three key D&I focus areas as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ inclusion, Disability and Accessibility, and Gender Equality. The top areas of work our members are engaged in are: inclusive recruitment, strategy and policy development, and inclusive leadership.
In response to strong demand for greater connection among D&I practitioners, we’re introducing more opportunities to network both virtually and in person. Explore everything DCA membership offers with one of our virtual tours, open to all.
If you missed the survey, we’d still love to hear from you—email us at memberservices@dca.org.au.

The history and significance of National Reconciliation Week (NRW2025)
Each year, NRW runs from 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively. NRW started as the Week of Prayer for Reconciliation in 1993 (the International Year of the World’s Indigenous Peoples). In 1996, the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation launched Australia’s first National Reconciliation Week and in 2001, Reconciliation Australia was established to provide national leadership on reconciliation.
Today, NRW is celebrated in workplaces, schools, community organisations and groups, and by individuals Australia-wide. This year’s theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present, and future. Reconciliation Australia provides resources, event calendars, news, and facts around NRW.

New Racial Dignity Framework
The Racial Dignity Framework (RDF) was developed and recently launched in Melbourne by Kathomi Gatwiri, Associate Professor and award-winning researcher. The model explores the intersection of race and dignity. The RDF positions racism as an assault on dignity, which can be experienced on various personal, ideological, social, political, cultural and institutional levels and can be used to understand experiences of exclusion for many marginalised groups. Many organisations have already successfully piloted the framework to support a safe supportive environment to reflect collectively on how their organisation can embed concepts of dignity across all facets of their work and relationships. Tickets to the RDF launch in Sydney on 21 May are available from Eventbrite.
