Gari Yala 2 survey now open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander workers across Australia are invited to share their experiences in the second phase of Gari Yala, a national study by UTS Jumbunna Centre for Indigenous Education and Research, UTS Business School, and Diversity Council Australia (DCA), with funding from NAB Foundation. This Indigenous-led research aims to create safer, fairer, and more culturally inclusive workplaces, improve access to quality jobs and meaningful careers, and ensure First Nations people can fully participate in the Australian workforce.
The ‘Gari Yala 2’ Survey opens today, Monday 14 April, and will close on Wednesday 9 May 2025. It is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people aged 18 years or over who are currently working or have been employed within the past two years. The survey is completely confidential and takes around 20 minutes to complete. Eligible participants who complete it will be entered into a competition to win one of ten $100 Jarin Street gift vouchers.
Employers are also encouraged to share this survey with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander team members and networks to help drive meaningful change.

Facing D&I resistance? Explore insights from DCA’s Key Contacts event
On 31 March, DCA hosted a special event for DCA Member Key Contacts to share the challenges, questions, and concerns they’re encountering in the face of D&I resistance - and to discuss how we can keep driving positive change.
Our research shows that nearly three-quarters of Australian employees support their organisation’s D&I efforts, and that inclusive organisations are more innovative, resilient, and high-performing. Yet, in the broader public sphere, conversations around D&I can often feel increasingly polarised.
To help navigate this complex climate, we’ve captured the key takeaways from the event in a practical Q&A blog – covering the current challenges, what’s fuelling resistance, and the DCA tools and resources that can support your work. Read the blog and explore key insights.

Learn more and read our pre-election survey as we track how the major parties align on these critical focus areas.

Want to measure D&I in your organisation, but not sure where or how to start?

Expressions of interest are open for this year’s Inclusive Employer Index. Participation in the index is open to both DCA member and non-member organisations. By running the survey within your organisation, you'll gain deeper, data-driven insights across key diversity dimensions and comprehensive benchmarking against the Australian workforce, other DCA members, and (where applicable) your industry.

How is your workplace preparing for National Reconciliation Week 2025 (NRW2025)?
This year’s theme, Bridging Now to Next, is to remind us that reconciliation is an ongoing journey – one that requires us to learn from the past and push forward together for a better future. At a time when Australia faces uncertainty in its reconciliation journey, this theme calls on all of us to take action, deepen our understanding, and strengthen our commitment to First Nations truth-telling.
Your workplace can prepare for NRW2025 (27 May to 3 June 2025) by encouraging your teams to attend NRW events and training, engaging senior leaders in reconciliation initiatives, and assessing where your organisation can go further. Find out more at www.reconciliation.org.au.
