Elevate your D&I work with DCA’s Inclusive Employer Index
DCA is now inviting Expressions of Interest for this year’s Inclusive Employer Index - a powerful diagnostic tool to assess your organisation’s D&I progress, benchmark strengths, pinpoint areas for growth, and provide actionable insights to enhance your approach to D&I.
Administered in partnership with Diversity Atlas, our comprehensive survey removes the work of designing your own. Participation in the Inclusive Employer Index is open to both DCA member and non-member organisations. By running the survey within your organisation, you'll gain deeper, data-driven insights across key diversity dimensions. The Inclusive Employer Index also prioritises employee privacy and data safety, providing an independent, anonymous survey that can enhance accuracy and boost response rates.
By participating, your organisation will gain:
-
insights into your employees’ experiences of inclusion and exclusion
-
an interactive dashboard to explore your workforce’s diversity and inclusion data against others
-
comprehensive benchmarking against the Australian workforce, other DCA members, and (where applicable) your industry
-
support through webinars and communication templates, along with (for DCA members) access to range of membership services.
Organisations that meet or exceed the assessment criteria will be recognised as one of DCA’s Inclusive Employers for 2025-2026, with recognition lasting the two-year period.

More than getting girls into science

Despite millions in funding and huge national programs, only 27 percent of Australia’s 2021 STEM workforce were women – and they earned 23.5 percent less than men. Beyond inspiring women and girls to pursue STEM careers, there is a lifetime of challenges facing women and gender-diverse STEM graduates in the workforce.
In this blog post for DCA, Dr Janin Bredehoeft (she/her), CEO of Science in Australia Gender Equity (SAGE), examines how evidence-based action is being used to challenge systemic barriers, work towards gender equity, and attract, retain, and promote women in STEM careers.

DCA’s Scholar-in-Residence and Director of Special Projects, Dr Virginia Mapedzahama (she/her), recently contributed her insights to a thought-provoking panel discussion on gender equality at the UN Women Australia Parliamentary Breakfast. This event launched the International Women’s Day 2025 theme, ‘March Forward: For ALL Women and Girls’, commemorating the 30th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
With Virginia’s expertise, DCA provided key insights from our workplace research on racism, racial equity, anti-racism, and the vital role of intersectionality in D&I efforts. Conversation at the event focused on actionable solutions to advance gender equality, tackling systemic barriers and identifying opportunities to empower women in Australia and globally.

The commitment to building a more inclusive Australia, where all people with disability can participate on an equal basis, has been reaffirmed through the release of the updated Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031.
DCA welcomes Australia’s renewed commitment to improving the lives of people with disability through better collaboration and coordination among state/territory and federal governments, more engagement with people with disability, and greater awareness of the Strategy. We strongly supported the priority of addressing employment barriers and related challenges faced by people with disability. Read DCA’s update on Australia’s Disability Strategy 2021-2031.
