Dads and extended parental leave: a personal perspective
As we prepare for tomorrow's event, Breaking Dad: how to boost men sharing parental leave, we’re pleased to bring you a guest blog tied to the event’s theme, along with a useful list of DCA and other resources. In her blog, ‘Dads and extended parental leave: A personal perspective’, Emily Smeed, Logistics Contract Manager at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, reflects on her family’s experience with parental leave.
Tomorrow's event will feature a range of insights from panellists including: Frances Feenstra, Associate Director at People Measures and Founding Chair and member of Research Committee, The 100% Project; Michael Day, Partner, Finance Advisory, KPMG Australia; Juliana Nkrumah AM, Manager, Gender Equality & Women's Safety, Settlement Services International; and Ashley Scott, Executive Officer, Rainbow Families. Emily will also join the panel to share her story.
The event will also include a discussion on the unique challenges trans and gender-diverse families face in accessing parental leave, with insights from Rainbow Families. We will be featuring more on this topic in future blogs, highlighting the range of perspectives and challenges related to parental leave for diverse types of families.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how we can create a more equitable approach to parental leave. DCA members can register for the online event until 10am on Wednesday, 14 August.

Take action on gender pay equity: WGEA Equal Pay Day – 19 August
WGEA’s Equal Pay Day 2024 is coming up on 19 August, marking the 50 days into the new financial year that women in Australia must work to earn the same, on average, as men did last year.
